Noordwijk owes its epithet ‘floral seaside resort’ to the fact that this city is situated close to the heart of the bulb area. This seaside resort achieved international standing after the European Council of Ministers elected to have their conference here. The Dutch national football team stays in Noordwijk quite regularly when preparing for important matches.
Noordwijk offers a range of deluxe hotels, situated on the boulevard. Other categories of accommodations are located just behind the dunes. You can fall asleep with the sound of the surge in your ears. In summer, real palm trees wave in the balmy sea breeze. The beach is approximately 13 kilometers long.
The redbrick lighthouse stands 33 meters tall. Character: group flashing every 20 seconds. The light intensity is 38,000 cd and the visibility is 18 zm. Every other year the lighthouse is open to the public during the National Heritage Weekend in September. The Noordwijk local tourist information office has more information for you on this.
The local tourist board in Katwijk promotes the village as "young at heart". Why? Because as a traditional family seaside resort it offers a wide range of facilities and activities for both young and old and a host of typically inviting family pensions. You're never too old!
Directly on the sea
Katwijk is situated directly on the sea and boasts a promenade perfect for a leisurely stroll. While you're there, make sure to pay a visit to the oldest lighthouse on the Dutch coast and the little white church. The church backs onto a small courtyard which is lined with old fishing cottages. It will give you an impression of the importance of the village in earlier times.
