The most important attraction in Limmen is the Hortus Bulborum, a garden that in April and May displays some 1500 historic bulbs in bloom. And during one week in spring, flower mosaics and all kinds of pictures and objects made up from flowers are exhibited throughout the village.
The Hortus Bulborum has the purpose of preserving historic bulbs for future generations. The oldest tulip dates from 1591.
Heiloo is built on a raised sandy ridge around the Witte Kerkje (White Church), where you will also find the 'Willibrordus' Well), named after the man who propagated Christianity in the 7th century. Heiloo is separated from the sea by a 7 kilometre wide stretch of polders and dunes with its own flora and fauna. In spring the sandy soil is the growing ground for bulbs.
