Alkmaar, the cheese town of the Netherlands. It is not surprising that the weekly cheese market (March-September) gets the attention of numerous visitors. But there is more to Alkmaar than meets the eye! How about a tour through the infamous canals? Or maybe you want to sail yourself by renting a motorboat or canoe? There are multiple museums like the cheese museum, beer museum but also het 'Stedelijk museum'. The local theater 'de Vest' has a variation of shows and musicals. The main centre of Alkmaar is beautiful restored: the small streets, little galleries, exclusive boutiques, canal houses and wonderful façades.

The two large shopping streets; Laat and The Langestraat are perfect for a day full of shopping. And after a hard day of shopping you can sit and relax on one of the most cosy terraces of Holland. Alkmaar has a variation of restaurants and trendy bars. Near the Ritsevoort, around the 'Waagplein' and on the 'platte stenen brug' are multiple restaurants and bars situated.

When you visit Alkmaar please don't forget the surroundings! Alkmaar has a beautiful position regarding the dunes and beach. You can reach the beach of Bergen and Egmond by bike or visit the small villages Bergen and Schoorl in the lowlands. Alkmaar is very central situated and you can reach cities like; Haarlem, Utrecht, Schagen, Hoorn, Medenblik and Enkhuizen by train. You want to visit Texel for a day? No problem! Take your car drive up to Den Helder and you can reach Texel by ferry-boat.(20 minutes).
